Last week we had our first book club meeting! Wonderful conversations were had; we dove deep into the themes of this book, collectively holding space for each other…
This week, as we enter the second half of the book (or wherever you are in this reading journey), perhaps allow yourself a bit of reflection:
- Have you read as much as you would like to? Did you put pressure on yourself to read more than you had the capacity for? - Have any topics brought a sense of constriction or unsettledness? What about a sense of ease? - Have you found knowledge in any of the writings?
This book asks us many times to reflect on our own mind and body- so just notice your responses, both cognitively and physically (through your nervous system).
Learning how to settle your body enables you to connect with those around you, and better manage stress… The chapters that we will explore together this next month will give us ample opportunity to practice supporting our nervous system.
Chapter 10 gave us a great start with techniques that include:
Humming
Belly Breathing
Buzzing (like a bee would)
Slow rocking
Rubbing your belly
20’s- 20 circles of each limb
Repeating “OM”
Singing aloud to yourself
Chanting
Breathe, Ground, Resource- taking a few deep breaths, then notice surrounding, and focus on something that brings ease (like a pet or loved one).
Touching your discomfort- Focus on an aspect of painful incident/experience, then ground and resource
Do any of these resonate with you?
Please join us for our next gathering, regardless of how much you have read :)
